Mount Pleasant is the older, quieter side of Cabarrus County — a small town on Highway 73 with a historic Main Street, surrounded by farms, churches and the acreage subdivisions that have grown up along Highway 49 and Gold Hill Road. The trees here are different from the subdivision trees in Concord. Farmyard white oaks, post oaks and hickories that were shading houses before the Civil War; long rows of pecans and cedars along the old roads; and stands of loblolly and Virginia pine that were planted for timber and then left when the land was subdivided.

Can you save the old oak by the house?
Usually. Most of the big white oaks and post oaks out here are structurally sound and just need deadwood taken out, a canopy lift off the roof and sometimes a cable on a heavy union. A white oak can live 300 years; ours is often the first real pruning it's ever had.
Do you handle large trees on acreage where there's room to drop them?
That's the easy kind. Trees with a clear fall zone get felled, limbed and bucked, and we can leave the trunk in log lengths for a sawyer or cut everything to firewood rounds.
Do I need a permit in Mount Pleasant to remove trees?
For trees on your own residential or farm property, generally no; the town's rules apply to development. County stream-buffer rules along the Rocky River and its creeks still apply to clearing near water.
